Following a controversial couple of weeks of back and forth with ex-boyfriend and rapper Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj comes through with a brand new anthem titled “Yikes”. The song is the first verse since the Queen Barb announced her retirement last year. On the track, Nicki flexes her word game and lavish lifestyle over a knocking trap pooh Beatz production. “Woke up, the price of coke up / I just hit ’em with the low cut, then call my folks up (Folks) / Somebody ’bout to get poked up, go call a tow truck / All that talkin’ out your neck, might just get your throat cut,” she spits. “Yikes, what’s the hype? This is something light (Light, light,Yikes, outta town on consistent flights / Yikes, work hard, this a different white / Get your life, you bitches ain’t livin’ right,” she continues.
“Yikes” is the first cut and promotional single off of Nicki Minaj’s forthcoming fifth studio album. “Before I had a dime, I always said I tried to watch what JAY-Z did and how he handled hip-hop and entrepreneurship. And I always look at him and I take my notes from him. So where you see JAY is right now, that’s what I want to be in the Nicki Minaj way. I want to still be a staple in rap, but opening doors for new people,” she explained in a recent interview. “I feel like albums should be a surprise sonically with what they can expect, but they can expect to feel like, ‘OK, Nicki’s in a good [mentally and spiritually] place,’” she said. Nicki Minaj’s official single can be expected with a music video soon! Until then, bang to “Yikes” below!
