The Weeknd Kicks Off New Era With “Heartless”

The Weeknd is back like he never left!

Over the weekend, The Weeknd returned to the scenes with a brand new single titled “Heartless”. This is the first solo single release from the Toronto singer since 2018’s “Call Out My Name”. On the high-energy single, Abel finds himself warning a lover about his rich and lavish and sometimes troubling lifestyle. “Said I’m heartless / So much pussy, it be fallin’ out the pocket / Metro Boomin turn this ho into a moshpit / Tesla pill got me flyin’ like a cockpit,” he spits over the Metro Booming production. “Yeah, I got her watchin’ / Call me up, turn that pussy to a faucet / Duffle bags full of drugs and a rocket / Stix drunk, but he never miss a target, “ he continues. In a video assisting the track, The Weeknd hits Caesars Palace, Las Vegas where he takes us on a intoxicated night with Metro Boomin.
In true post-mixtape fashion, “Heartless” came with a quick follow-up single titled “Blinding Lights”. On the track, The Weeknd compares his significant other’s effects to the “blinding lights”. “I said, ooh, I’m blinded by the lights / No, I can’t sleep until I feel your touch / I said, ooh, I’m drowning in the night / Oh, when I’m like this, you’re the one I trust,” he croons over the 80s-inspired synths and electronic dance music drums. Both tracks kick off the new era leading to The Weeknd’s fourth studio album. At this point, I’m really looking forward to the new project. While both tracks give us a sneak preview at where Abel may currently be in his life, they both continue to showcase the versatility The Weeknd has displayed since House of Balloons. I’m definitely looking forward to this new era! seeing that the last project Starboy wasn’t my favorite, I’m hoping Abel returns to his roots while continuing to explore and push the boundaries of the pop and R&B genres. The Weeknd’s fourth studio album is due at the top of 2020! Until then, check out the Weeknd in “Heartless” below!
