Ariana Grande Hits The Trap House with 2 Chainz For “7 Rings (Remix)”
Has Ariana Grande even been to the trap house?
Last week Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” debuted #1 making her one of three female artists to have multiple #1 debuts on the Billboard Hot 100. Keeping the momentum, the 24-year-old quickly follows up with the remix featuring 2 Chainz. “I’m from the streets, baby, I’m nothing like them / She’s sweet in the day, but freaky when night come / It’s mine, invest it,” 2 Chainz spits over the Hi-Town and Social House production. “Made a new friend,” Grande tweeted with the premiere of the remix, a slick response to fans and critics. “7 Rings” met controversy upon its release for similarities to track’s like Soulja Boy’s “Pretty boy Swag,” Princess Nokia’s “,” and 2 Chainz “Spend It”. “Tryna figure out if I should “Big Draco” Ariana Grande,” on an Instagram post of the “7 Rings” visual.
In the Hannah de Lux production, Ari and her friends throw a house party in a setting to one similar to 2 Chainz famous trap house used in the promotion of Pretty Girls Like Trap Music. Some questioned if Ariana Grande even been to a trap house? “The imagery which symbolize drugs and poverty fail to connect with Grande’s image due to her occupying a space she never experienced.” Even further, she was criticized for the cultural use of the imagery. “Her presence near the house speaks much larger to white women wanting to insert themselves into a narrative that they don’t identify with solely to sell an image of the “ghetto fab” identity they desperately desire.”
