Should Travi$ Scott & Big Boi Perform At The Super Bowl Half Time Show?
Should Travis Scott & Big Boi Hit The Super Bowl Halftime Stage?
It’s official! On Sunday, January 13th the NFL confirmed that Adam Levine and his Grammy-winning band Maroon 5 will headline the Pepsi Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Feb. 3. Along with them? Both Travi$ Scott and Outkast’s Big Boi! The announcement comes months after speculation and controversy surrounding the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick. But according to Billboard, Travis required that the NFL make a joint donation to a cause for social justice before he signed on. “I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in,” Scott said in a statement. “I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.” In addition to the $500,000 donation, Travi$ will continue to work with the NFL on other initiatives.
However, some people aren’t satisfied with the “Sicko Mode” rapper’s initiative. According to sources, JAY-Z attempted to talk Scott out of performing at the Super Bowl. The Roc Nation mogul, along with Rihanna, Cardi B, Pink, and various others reportedly turned down offers to perform in support of Kaepernick, who was drummed out of the league for “taking a knee” during the national anthem. Big Boi has yet to comment on the situation since confirming the performance. I do believe that both Travi$ and Big Boi should have turned down the opportunities in support of Colin who still doesn’t have a job. However, maybe they will be able to use the platform to strike some change similar to Beyonce’s controversial performance back in 2016. Amongst it all, how awkward do you think this is for the black member of Maroon 5!? We’ll just have to see how things play out! What are your thoughts on this situation? Will you be watching on February 3rd? Sound off in the comments below!
