Kanye West has never been one to underwhelm a crowd: whether he’s hosting a music video award event or giving random interviews, people are already used to ‘Ye being a ludicrous genius that doesn’t conform to our standards. Instead of sitting around trying to meet people online (like most of us are doing), the famous rapper is already working on his new album. In that regard, let’s take a quick look at everything that happened since the release of Kanye’s last album so that we can try to establish what can be expected from this newest venture.
Kicking Ass and Changing Names
As most of you already know, the last album Kanye West has made was released way back in 2016. “The Life of Pablo” was a major hit back then – it was first on the US chart and 2nd on US R&B and Rap charts – and some of its songs are being played on radios to this day. But that’s all fine and dandy, as that’s what pretty much everyone expects from Kanye – he’s quirky and maybe even a bit narcissistic, but he’s a musical genius. However, what we didn’t expect was Yeezy stating only two weeks later that his “next album is titled “Turbo Grafx 16” as of now…” Now, this should be taken with a grain of salt considering that “The Life of Pablo” is like the third or fourth name ‘Ye gave to this album. Previously, it was called “So Help Me God” only to be renamed to “SWISH,” but ultimately landing its final title with a couple of other ones in between. Still, we can all agree that that’s way too early for someone to announce a new album, even if they’re as big a musical genius as West. Then again, it’s Yeezus, so who knows what’s going on in his head.
Nothing has been said since 2016 about Yeezy’s new album – until a week ago, that is. In a story published on E! News, a source close to Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian said that “he has several producers, friends and his personal trainer who have all dropped into town to work with him,” as well as Travis Scott being in town to work on music with him. According to the source, ‘Ye’s Wyoming studio (where he was at the time the article was published) is his “in the zone” location, meaning he goes there when he wants to find a more clear sense of direction for his art so that he can get things done. In 2017, two songs leaked: “Euro (Switch Hands)” featuring A$AP Rocky and “Hold Tight” with Young Thug and Migos. Both singles were awesome and were a quick glance at what we can expect from his new album that’s supposed to hit us in 2018. All things considered, West’s new album could’ve changed its title about 300 times since the rapper and music mogul first announced it, but one thing’s for sure – it’s going to be one hell of a ride if he’s collaborating with Travis Scott on it.
