Grammy Award 2018 Predictions: Who Will Win And Who Should Win

Who will take home the gramophone at this weekend's ceremony?

Another year, another exciting Grammys ceremony! This year, however, is unlike any others that we’ve seen before. In the past, we’ve seen the Grammys miss the note when it came to the nominations, especially in the Rap, R&B and Urban categories. However, this year finds all of the heavy-hitters nominated not only in the stated categories but in the general ones as well! With the Rap genre most recently becoming America’s favorite, it’s exciting to see these artists getting the recognition they deserve. Jay Z leads the pack with 8 nominations including Record and Album of the year, Kendrick Lamar and Bruno Mars have 7 and 6 nominations respectively. Childish Gambino, Khalid and SZA all have 5 nominations each. Along with the actual awards comes the performances and this year’s line-up has a little bit of everything. Performers include Lady Gaga, Pink, Childish Gambino, Bruno Mars an Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, SZA, Kendrick Lamar and Kesha amongst many others! Talk about music’s biggest night! You can tune in to the 60th Annual Grammys, hosted by James Corden, on January 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS! Check out my predictions: who will win and who should win below!

Record Of The Year
Childish Gambino  – “Redbone”
Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber
Jay-Z – “The Story of O.J.”
Kendrick Lamar – “Humble”
Bruno Mars – “24K Magic”

Album Of The Year
Awaken, My Love! – Childish Gambino
4:44 – Jay – Z
DAMN. – Kendrick Lamar
Meldroma – Lorde
24K Magic – Bruno Mars

I think that Jay – Z will take the trophy for Album of The Year for 4:44. The influential album redefined HOV while connecting with listeners, inspiring to be better. Although the album performed well and connected with the masses, in my opinion Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. was a better project. DAMN. performed better and had much more of an impact in the mainstream than 4:44 but you can’t deny the star power of Jay Z and that’s what the Grammys are all about.

Song Of The Year
“Despacito”  – Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber
“4:44” – Jay -Z
“Issues” – Julia Michaels
“1-800-273-8255”  – Logic ft. Alessia Cara
“That’s What I Like” – Bruno Mars

Best New Artist
Alessia Cara
Khalid
Lil Uzi Vert
Julia Michaels
SZA

Best Pop Performance
“Love So Soft” – Kelly Clarkson
“Praying” – Kesha
“Million Reasons” – Lady Gaga
“What About Us” – Pink
“Shape of You” – Ed Sheeran

Best R&B Performance
“Get You” – Daniel Caesar featuring Kali Uchis
“Distraction” – Kehlani
“High” – Ledisi
“That’s What I Like” – Bruno Mars
“The Weekend” – SZA

This is a relatively tough category! The last year has been an incredible year for the R&B genre. Between SZA and Daniel Caesar, I’d even say that the R&B genre is reborn after years of being dubbed “dead”. I’d love to see Kehlani win for “Distraction” and both SZA’s”The Weekend” and Daniel Caesar’s “Get You” are very deserving. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Bruno Mars took home the award due to his star power.

Best Rap Performance
“Bounce Back” – Big Sean
“Bodak Yellow” – Cardi B
“4:44” – Jay-Z
“Humble” – Kendrick Lamar
“Bad and Boujee” – Migos featuring Lil Uzi Vert

Best Rap/Sung Performance
“Prblms” – 6lack
“Crew” – GoldLink featuring Brent Faiyaz & Shy Glizzy
“Family Feud” – Jay-Z featuring Beyoncé
“Loyalty” – Kendrick Lamar featuring Rihanna
“Love Galore” – SZA featuring Travis Scott

This is another tough category! All fo the songs are deserving of the Grammy. However, I believe that the star power behind The Carters will lead to the power couple taking home the award. In my opinion, Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna’s collaboration on “Loyalty” deserves the win. Once again, performed better and had much more of an impact in the mainstream than “Family Feud”.

Best Rap Song
“Bodak Yellow” – Cardi B
“Chase Me” – Danger Mouse ft. Run The Jewels & Big Boi
“The Story of O.J.” – Jay Z
“Humble” – Kendrick Lamar
“Sassy” – Rhapsody

Best Rap Album
4:44 – Jay-Z
DAMN. – Kendrick Lamar
Culture – Migos
Laila’s Wisdom – Rapsody
Flower Boy – Tyler, the Creator
