Earlier this week, Camila Cabello discussed her bubbling career in a New York Times interview. In the interview the “Never Be The Same” singer discusses her time on X Factor, her self-titled debut album and her very public break-up with pop group Fifth Harmony. Camila Cabello, born in Cuba before moving to Miami, made her debut on the second season of X Factor. On the show, Camilla was placed in the fan-named, quintet Fifth Harmony. Following the show, the 20-year old pop singer released two albums spawning a handful of hits including “Worth It” and “Work From Home”  with the group. Atop of the group’s success, a solo Camila also appeared  on hits like Charlie Puth’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and MGK’s “Bad Things”, causing some tension amongst the group. “If anyone wants to explore their individuality, it’s not right for people to tell you no,” she explained. By the end of 2016, it was clear Camilla Cabello had potential for a career outside of the group and the pop singer took advantage of it.

Fast forward to 2017, Fifth Harmony announces that Camila will be leaving the group stirring some drama between the fandoms of the two teams. Despite tension and all of the rumors, both parties continued to release exciting new music. In August, Fifth Harmony hit the stage to perform their Gucci-assisted hit “Down”. During the performance, the group threw a in-subtle jab at Camila when they threw a “fifth member” off of the stage at the beginning of their performance. “It definitely hurt my feelings. I wasn’t expecting it, I wasn’t prepared for it — especially because at that point I’d moved on from it. I was just like, ‘What? Why?,” a teary eyed Camila expressed. “I have to make space for the good stuff to happen in my life. I don’t like holding onto the past, especially when it’s stuff that, in my opinion, is just petty,” she continued. And that, she has done! Topping the charts with hits like “Havana” ft. Young Thug and “Never Be The Same”, the 20-year old officially distinguished herself as a solo-artist. Although I’m such a big Fifth Harmony fan, I must admit Camila Cabello is a very talented artist! I’m definitely looking forward to see how she grows as the “Beyonce” of her group. The debut album, Camila, hits shelves today! You can stream the album below!
