Ty Dolla $ign Plugs In Kanye West, Rae Sremmurd, Diddy + More For ‘Free TC’ [Album Review]
After a super long album campaign, Los Angeles rapper Ty Dolla $ign released his first studio album titled Free TC. Just a month after releasing his sixth mixtape titled Airplane Mode Dolla Sign finally gives his listeners what they have been waiting for. Ty really hit hard with a total of five singles from Free TC, including heavy hitters “Blasé” ft. Future & Rae Sremmurd, “When I See Ya” ft. Fetty Wap , and “Only Right” ft. YG, Joe Moses & TeeCee4800. Fans can expect a very feature heavy album including features from some of the hottest artists in the Rap game such as Kanye West, Future, Diddy, YG, Rae Sremmurd, Fetty Wap, Kendrick Lamar, and E40. Ty Dolla Sign also collaborated with some of R&B’s finest musicians such as Sevyn Streeter and Jagged Edge as well as Grammy award winners Brandy, Baby Face, and R.Kelly. Although this album presents itself as feature heavy Ty Dolla Sign keeps his originality throughout the whole album, as he does not shy away from the original musical and lyrical content that he is known for, “ratchet R&B”. Even though Ty is part of the new generation of R&B/rap he pays homage to some of the hottest influences of this generation’s music. The album has presents a very west coast style feel to it with an almost perfect combination of new school and old school musicians. From start to finish the album’s track list coincides very well. Listeners can expect a real treat with this album as Ty combines phone calls between him and his brother at the end of most of his songs, which gives the listener a more surreal understanding of his life and an valid explanation of why his album is titled Free TC. Ty has by far displayed the most vocal activity than any other project he has released to the public as well as giving the audience an inside look on his life. The opening song titled “L.A.” featuring Kendrick Lamar, brandy & James Fauntleroy is the best song on the album. “LA” gives a very soothing listen as Ty describes his youth living in the “City of Angels” and his love for the culture. Kendrick gives a premier feature as he talks about the hardships of living in Los Angeles while Brandy ties the knot by supplementing the song with her super dope vocal skills. At this point, anyone who is not a fan of Ty Dolla $ign should take serious consideration for listening to this album. For all the fans, this album hits home and it does not disappoint. Free TC gets 8 out of 10 stripes. Touché Ty, Touché.!
