Drake has had an amazing 2015! The rap god impacted culture with the unexpected If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, heated up the summer with tracks such as “Hotline Bling” and “Right Hand”, lead one of the most controversial moments in hip-hop with his “beef” with Meek Mill and most recently teamed up with Future on What A time To Be Alive. Amongst this all Drizzy has remained silent, letting his work do the talking, but in a recent interview with Fader Magazine, Drake discloses it all! When asked the million dollar question ask it relates to ghostwriting allegations Drake responded, “I need, sometimes, individuals to spark an idea so that I can take off running. I don’t mind that. And those recordings—they are what they are. And you can use your own judgment on what they mean to you…If I have to be the vessel for this conversation to be brought up—you know, God forbid we start talking about writing and references and who takes what from where—I’m OK with it being me… It’s just, music at times can be a collaborative process, you know? Who came up with this, who came up with that—for me, it’s like, I know that it takes me to execute every single thing that I’ve done up until this point. And I’m not ashamed.” Which makes complete sense! As I have been explaining to people, when these artists are in the studio, they’re working with many individuals to produce greatness. Sometimes it takes more than one person to produce that art.
As it relates to the hyped-up feud with Meek Mill, Drizzy portrays the situation from an artist’s’ view, “This is a discussion about music, and no one’s putting forth any music?… Nobody told you that this was a bad idea, to engage in this and not have something?…It was weighing heavy on me. I didn’t get it. I didn’t get how there was no strategy on the opposite end. I just didn’t understand. I didn’t understand it because that’s just not how we operate.” In my opinion, Drake is a popstar. When I say that, I don’t mean a colorful diva singing and dancing on stage. When I say pop star, I’m referring to Drake being a well thought-out power-production that influences the masses through art. When it comes to Drake’s response to Meek’s ghost writing allegations, there’s no question why Meek Mill is having a hard time regaining his balance. Amongst this all, I’m currently wondering where Drake’s going to take us during his anticipated View From The Six era. “It’s never about toughening up. I don’t even know if that’s, like, cool, being tough and shit,” he says. “Not being vulnerable is never gonna be my thing. I’m always going to share with you what’s going on in my life.” As, I said before Drake’s View From The Six will be completely opposite from what he has been releasing! I’m expecting a Take Care reminiscent album … if it ever comes out! You can check out Drake’s full FADER interview here!
