Miley Cyrus Plugs In Big Sean, Mike Will Made-It & Flaming Lips For Her Psychedelic Truth [Album Review]

Screen Shot 2015-09-01 at 10.33.39 AMAfter hosting the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, Miley Cyrus pulled a “Beyonce” and unexpectedly released an entire album for free. The album, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, matches the “raw” and “psychedelic” performance that Miley delivered at the prestigious award show. Aside from her major-label contract with RCA records, the pop superstar took a step away from the major label production consisting of the best songwriters, mastermind producers and glamorous collaborations to explore both her artistry and sound while delivering a piece that was true to her life. The album kicks off with the lead single “Dooo It!”, which gives listeners a sense of the freedom Miley experienced while making this album. The project consists of 23 trippy, psychedelic pop/rock productions that deliver Miley’s truths as they relate to drugs, sex, love and inner-peace. While some of the tracks are hard to listen to, others are master pieces showcasing the artist’s fearlessness when taking risks and her undeniable strong vocals. Some notable tracks include a smooth balled titled “Karen Don’t Be Sad”, a trippy, love-song titled “Space Boots”, a vulnerable yet R-Rated track titled “BB Talk”, another beautiful balled titled “Pablo The Blow Fish” and the psychedelic closing “1 Sun”. Collaborations include Sarah Barthel on “Slab of Butter”, Big Sean on “Tangerine” and Ariel Pink on “Tiger Dreams”. Just like the random track titles, the albums lyrics consists of random gibberish that can take (or add) to the albums psychedelic truths. Overall Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz is an exploratory project that only a pop star like Miley Cyrus can deliver and be successful! If I was a flower child that took drugs on the regular, I would love this album but unfortunately I don’t! Although, I don’t discredit this Miley for this album, I’m looking forward to Miley’s sixth studio album which will lead Cyrus back to her pop roots! Let’s go on a trip!
