Kid Ink Accelerates With ‘Full Speed’ [Album Review]
Kid Ink made his mark back in 2013 with the debut album My Own Lane. In 2015, the Los Angeles rapper picks things up with his sophomore project Full Speed. “I named my last album My Own Lane because that’s exactly how I felt at the time. After having an amazing year, I feel like I am just now hitting my stride and I’m going full speed in my own lane on this album,” Ink explained upon the project. This time around, Ink delivers a more artistic sound featuring the Cali-swag he’s known for. The album opens up with “What It Feels Like” and “Faster”, two Ink-felt tracks exploring the fast-life he currently lives. Afterwards, we dive in to the album with the smooth “Dolo” featuring R. Kelly, the bouncy, radio-friendly “Body Language” featuring Usher and Tinashe, the album’s heavy hitters “Hotel” featuring Chris Brown and “Be Real” featuring Dej Loaf and an oath to the 2000’s hip-hop group Hot Boyz titled “Like A Hot Boyy” featuring Young Thug . Other features include Migos on “Every City We Go” and Trey Songz on one of my favorites, a get-money anthem titled “About Mine”. Other notable tracks include Ink on the swagged-out “Cool Black” and the 420-anthem “Blunted”. The deluxe album semi-appropriately closes with “Show Must Go On” featuring MGK, Diamonds & Gold featuring “Verse Simmonds” and a sexual-packed track titled “POV”. Overall, Kid Ink does it again! A well put together album that fans will enjoy! However, it seems like Kid Ink isn’t speeding down his lane fast enough! In my opinion, majority of the tracks on Full Speed could have been on My Own Lane! I would like Ink to reach a destination showcasing growth and versatility as both a rapper and artist! Full Speed is expected to sell 25-30K copies in it’s first week!
