Fifth Harmony Makes A Successful Debut With ‘Reflection’ [Album Review]
Fifth Harmony is X Factor’s biggest success story consisting of Ally Brooke Hernandez, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane Hansen, Camila Cabello, and Lauren Jauregui, all contestants that were on the show’s second season. Similar to UK group One Direction, Simon Cowell saw potential in the individual contestants and decided to put them in a group together finishing in third place. Upon the release of the two singles “Worth It” featuring Kid Ink and “Like Mariah” featuring Tyga, I decided it would be fair to listen to the group’s debut, Reflection. The album opens up with a Danity Kane, “Show Stopper” reminiscent track titled “Top Down” before hitting of the album’s sassy single “BO$$”. The following tracks “Sledgehammer”, “Worth It” and “This Is How We Roll” showcase the groups variety in sound shifting from a beautiful ballad to an upbeat, electronic track. Additional to Kid Ink and Tyga comes an awesome collaboration with Meghan Trainor paying oath to great female artists such as Beyonce, Shakira and Rihanna on “Brave Honest Beautiful”. Each track on this project is different! While the girls showcase their beautiful vocals on smooth ballads like “Everlasting Love” and “Reflection” they deliver sass and attitude on hard-hitting tracks “Them Girls Be Like” and “We Know”. Another thing I like is how the girls pay oath to idols and influences such as Mariah Carey and Destiny’s Child throughout the record. Overall, well put together album showcasing these talented girls unique and powerful voices! If your looking for the next Spice Girl-reminiscent pop group, don’t stop here! This powerhouse is full of talent and I’m looking forward to more!
