Yesterday, R&B superstar, dancer and songwriter Ne-Yo released his sixth studio album Non-Fiction. In the promotion of the low-key album, Ne-Yo crowd searched as he developed an album that explored the ins-and-outs of relationships. Ne-Yo reached out to fans to hear their stories, incorporating them into his non-fictional lifestyle and album. The album opens up with the “Non-Fiction” interlude which, like always, sets the pace for this story-like project. Exploring themes such as love, trust, jealousy, lust and seduction, all conceptual aspects of affairs, Ne-Yo takes us on a rocky 19-track journey of gauzy synths and jittery rhythm tracks on uptempo tracks and smooth ballads alike. Collaborations on this album include Schoolboy Q on a grimy track titled “Run/An Island”, Charis Mills on a smooth ballad about a foxy-female titled “Integrity”, T.I. on the female-praising “One More”, Pitbull on the upbeat single “Time Of Our Lives”, Jeezy on one of my favorites “Money Can’t Buy”, Juicy J on the overplayed radio single “She Knows” and Candace on “She Said I’m Hood Tho”. Some of my favorites include the humorous story on a threesome titled and the smooth ballad about a beautiful user titled “Everybody Loves/The Def Of You”. Overall, Non-Fiction is a good R&B album, but nothing exceptional! While fans will appreciate the non-fictional aspect of the project, it isn’t early Because Of You, Year Of The Gentlemen Ne-Yo that we love! What do you think? Sound off in the comment box below!
