The summer time is a great period for music! Whether these tracks remind you of a certain moment or a special someone, these are the songs that usually leave a lasting impression that will bring you memories for a lifetime! This summer left us with some amazing tracks from some of today’s biggest pop divas, some turnt-up DJ Mustard productions as well as an introduction to a recently new sub-genre to come! 10. Magic – “Rude”
Reggae fusion was hot this summer! Canadian reggae/pop group, Magic!, found international success with their debut single, “Rude”. The smooth, heartfelt song peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 amongst the numerous charts it landed. The lyrics, about marrying a girl against her father’s will, along with it’s uplifting sound made this love song a success! “Rude” is so refreshing that I think the only right way to enjoy it, is while laying on the beach! 9. Sia – “Chandelier”
Sia was just in time for the party this summer! The Australian singer/songwriter found success with her newest single “Chandelier” this season. Delivering a perfect combination of song-writing skills and impressive vocals, Sia explores electro-pop, reggae and R&B influences while telling the story of your average party girl. Whether you were that girl or the girl who girl came with that girl, Sia’s “Chandelier” was a song for you! Looking for something to dance to? Don’t get to crazy! Check out Kiesza’s “Hideaway”!
8. Nico & Vinz – “Am I Wrong”
This Norwegian duo kicked-started the summer with their reggae-fusion hit, “Am I Wrong”. With the perfect combination of vocals, a unique sound and heart-felt lyrics anyone could relate to, Nico and Vinz made their way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 this summer. No matter where you were or who you were with, if this song came on you were probably jamming to it! While Nico & Vinz prepare their debut album The Black Elephant, there’s another artist delivering similar heartfelt tunes! Check out Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be”!
7. Lil Wayne – “Believe Me” ft. Drake
What is a summer without your favorite Young Money artists? This time around, it was YMCMB frontman, Lil Wayne that delivered a summer anthem. Straight off of Weezy’s anticipated album Tha Carter V comes “Believe Me” ft. Drake. With a perfect hook, nice verses and an overall chill vibe, the duo gave us someone to believe in. Currently both Weezy and Drake are finishing their forthcoming albums, Tha Carter V and Views from the 6 respectively. Until then, you can check out P. Reign’s “DnF” ft. Drake & Future!
6. Ariana Grande – “Problem” ft. Iggy Azalea
The beautiful pint-sized, pop dive Ariana Grande was another artist that owned the air waves this summer! Amongst having 3 Top 10 singles, “Problem”, is the one that takes the cake! The 90’s inspired pop/R&B track stayed within the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 for majority of the season. The song, which features Iggy Azalea, explores the very familiar summer-time situation of a broken relationship that you can’t get enough of! Did you know that Detroit rapper Big Sean is also featured on the track? Yeah, he’s the guy whispering on the hook! There’s plenty more where this track comes from! 5. Jason Derulo – “Wiggle Wiggle”
Of course we couldn’t get through the summer without a little twerk! Jason Derulo delivered radio magic with his current single “Wiggle Wiggle”. Jason teamed up with West Coast rapper, Snoop Dogg for this summer’s twerk anthem. While lyrically the song wasn’t impressive, the song’s contagion is what kept us singing this track. “Wiggle Wiggle” spends “You know what to do with that big fat butt . . . wiggle, wiggle”! 4. TeeFlii – “24 Hours” ft. 2 Chainz
As soon as I heard LA rapper TeeFlii’s “24 Hours”, I knew it was going to be a hit! For some reason, we can’t get enough of DJ Mustard’s “ratchet” productions. If it was the beat, the song’s suggestive lyrics or the turnt-up verse from 2 Chainz, “24 Hours” was played consistently throughout the summer! Looking for more DJ Mustard productions? 3. Jeremih – “Don’t Tell ‘Em” ft. YG
When Jeremih’s “Don’t Tell ‘Em” dropped in May, I had no idea how popular the track would really be! Jeremih, along with featured rapper, YG, were all over the place this summer with the turnt-up DJ Mustard production. It may have been on the dance floor or maybe you were cruising the streets of your city, either way you couldn’t deny the songs contagion! “It’s definitely for the trunk, it’s definitely for the streets. It’s definitely for everybody. It’s a lot of thump for your trunk and just crack music for the streets”, he explained. Man, was he right! Looking for me more turn-up? 2. Iggy Azalea – “Fancy” ft. Charlie XCX
Whether this was your anthem, you dreaded the track or a mixture of both, you must admit Iggy Azalea owned the air waves this summer. Iggy along with newcomer, Charlie XCX, topped the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks! The combination of the a crisp, club-bangin’ production, glamor-packed lyrics with a catchy hook had everyone, young and old, chanting how fancy they were. Can’t get enough Iggy!?
