Ariana Grande – ‘My Everything’ [Album Review]
Ariana Grande has created a huge buzz within these last few months. Currently, all three of the pop star’s singles; “Problem”, “Break Free” and “Bang Bang” are within the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Today Grande releases her sophomore album, My Everything. “I don’t want it to sound like an extension of Yours Truly. I want it to sound like an evolution. I want to explore more sounds and experiment a little bit. I have a bunch of ideas I’m very excited about and a lot of stuff cooking”, Grande explained. Upon revealing the album’s track listing which includes Zedd, Big Sean, The Weeknd and A$AP Ferg amongst many others, I became excited to see what was in the kitchen! My Everything opens up with the smash hit “Problem” featuring Iggy Azalea before moving onto some smooth, pop ballads called “One Last Time” and “Why Try”. Next comes one of the album’s honorable mentions; a dark-ballad “Best Mistake” ft. current boyfriend, Big Sean, along with another smooth track called “Be My Baby” ft. Cashmere. The album’s heavy hitters include an upbeat pop/R&B tune sampling Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out” called “Break Your Heart Right Back” featuring Childish Gambino and a turnt-up hip-hop inspired track featuring A$AP Ferg called “Hands On Me”! Other honorable mentions include “Love Me Harder” ft. The Weeknd and a bonus track “You Don’t Know Me”. Throughout my listen I couldn’t help but reminisce Mariah Carey’s early days, and it doesn’t help that Grande continues collabs with some of hip-hop’s biggest names as she explores sounds from the 90s. I’m looking forward to watching Ariana Grande grow as an artist! My Everything includes everything from upbeat pop tracks to smooth hip-hop/R&B tracks and beautiful, heartfelt ballads. Overall, Grande delivers another fresh, pop album that ends any theories of the sophomore curse! Give the album a listen below!
