Check this out! Bianca is a Rhode Island singer/songwriter that wrote Canadian rapper, Peter Jackson’s, “Havana” ft. Waka Flocka. Today the video was released on World Star and Much Music! Here’s Bianca’s experience with both writing and shooting “Havana”:
My good friend, Ryan Metcalfe, asked me to write the chorus of “Havana” for a Canadian rapper, Peter Jackson. Ryan produced the song, but I did not believe it all at first! It was just so surreal. Once I realized he wasn’t kidding, I headed straight for the studio. When I asked them what I should write about, they told me to make it sound hot and include “Havana.” Challenge accepted. My engineer, Emerson Torrey, produced the hook at his studio and we sent it that night. The song is about a girl asking her man to bring her to Havana, because she is tired of being at home with the stress and drama. She needs a getaway. When Peter Jackson said he liked what I wrote, I was ecstatic! The song is his newest single of his mixtape, “Good Company,” which was exclusively released on Datpiff.com, December 24th, 2013 (Hint: Go download it if you like!).
In the first scene of the music video, I am packing my bags and asking Jackson to fly me to Havana. I am anxious to get out of our house and get away. I pull up the dress I am going to wear for the next scene out of my suitcase as Jackson looks up at me from across the room. Then, Waka Flocka Flame comes over to our mansion that night for a pool party, before we leave for Havana the next morning. We shot scenes in front of the stairwells, before joining the party. Finally, Jackson and I are filmed leaving the mansion and driving off towards Havana.
The experience on set was incredible. All of the crew and everyone’s supporters had big hearts, so I was able to make lots of new friends! Waka Flocka came into the room while we were discussing the storyline with the director and shook everyone’s hand. Every second he had the chance on set, he got up and introduced himself to new people. Waka told me a lot of great advice and it made me feel so much better while filming. He stressed how being an artist is a waste if you’re not being you. Be comfortable with who you are, and you will shine. He continued to say inspiring words through out the shoot and it truly hit me deep. He is a platinum artist celebrity who knows what it feels like to have all eyes on him. He knows the pressure, the stress, the media. But, he doesn’t care. He cares about being who he is. I didn’t expect for that idea to resonate with me as much as it did.
I am constantly being inspired by the people around me. It started out when Natalie Grant shared her story at the Revolve Tour and sang a song she wrote. I was 11 years old and I knew that that was what I wanted to do. I want to encourage people through life with my music. I want to talk about real issues. Nobody lives a perfect life, and we’ve all got been affected by pain. If music eases that pain, writing music is worth it. My parents are also huge influences on me and show me how to love like Jesus everyday through their actions. I could write a mile long list of the artists and/or people in my life that inspire me, but the three people I wrote above are the most important to my music career. That’s a little bit about “Havana” and my experience! God is amazing and I am so blessed to be able to be working with artists and producers all over the world. I hope you enjoyed the stories, and let me know what you all think about the new music video! Keep in touch through my Youtube channel, Twitter or Facebook! Check out “Havana” below!
