The cast of ‘American Idol’, Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Kieth Urban, Ryan Seacrest and Nicki Minaj all cover the upcoming issue of ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ where they all discuss the upcoming season of the Idol-making show. Randy Jackson, who’s been with ‘American Idol’ from the beginning, discusses the new panel, “I’m really impressed by the diversity of the panel – when you look at the talent level, how many records we sold . . . You look at Ryan Seacrest, at these power players . . . If we can’t help them be successful, then no one can”. Nicki Minaj discusses joining the panel, “[There’s a judgmental culture in hip-hop . . . sometimes you are afraid of being too famous because it’s almost, like, is that even cool? Being that accessible someone you see on TV every week? I never pictured myself as that type of person”. Mariah Carey too discusses joining the show, “I was on the fence about the whole thing. I got approached by all these shows”. She tells the magazine her husband, Nick Cannon, influenced her decision, “He said I should do it because it’s the top, it’s the cream of the crop. And I felt like, ‘Do the show that’s produced massive stars who have had major careers”.
Now what everybody wants to hear about . . . Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. The two tried their best avoiding questions revolving around their very publicized fight but still suggested rivalry. “Sometimes things get heated for their own reason”, Carey explained. “I don’t think the panel has an issue”. When Minaj was asked about the fight, she completely avoided the question but said, “I am scary and intimidating I definitely demand respect. I’m also a sweet person. I’m a loving person. But I don’t want to be f*cked with” The show’s rating’s declined over the last two seasons but do you think this all-star cast will help bring it back to the top?
